Tips on choosing the right soccer cleats

Any soccer player, whether amateur or pro, knows that the most important equipment that they have to properly secure before playing the game is their soccer shoes (also known as soccer cleats). Soccer is a game that is mostly played by foot. That being said, it is of great importance to choose the right pair of soccer cleats, which will allow them to play a good game. However, buying soccer shoes, especially for the first-time, can be very challenging. This is because soccer shoes come in different types that vary greatly in design, features and function. So, whether you are buying the shoes for yourself or for your kids, it is vital that you choose the right type of cleats to purchase. Here are some video for guidance.

World Boot Spotting March 2012

After a couple of weeks of Mango dominance, it was time for the adidas Predator Lethal Zones to rule pitches around the globe. But the Predator wasn't the only new boot on show, as we saw a new F50 adizero colourway and a new Mizuno Wave Ignitus II. So check out our latest edition of Boot Spotting, which if you can believe it only features two Nike players?!

Robin Van Persie (Arsenal) adidas Predator Lethal Zones
One of adidas' lead Predator wearers, and the current top goalscorer in the Premier League, Robin Van Persie took to the field wearing his Predator Lethal Zones but featuring a unique sole-plate. Van Persie was sporting what looked to be an adiPower Absolion outsole, which isn't too much of a surprise when you consider Robin is a particular fan of bladed studs.

Keisuke Honda (CSKA Moscow) Mizuno Wave Ignitus II
Resembling the launch edition Morelia Neo, the new Mizuno Wave Ignitus II has hints of orange splashed on the boots and the bio-panels. Looking at the heel counter, we can see that Honda is once again wearing his custom outsole, which the dead-ball specialist has designed himself.

Michael Ballack (Bayer Leverkusen) adidas Predator Lethal Zones
It's quite fitting that on the weekend a new Predator made it's on pitch debut, one of the games great adidas Predator wearers potentially bowed out of the game. One of the games best central midfielders, Michael Ballack pulled on the new Predator LZ's for perhaps the first and last time as he played his last game for Bayer Leverkusen.

Vadis Odjida-Ofoe (Club Brugge) adidas F50 adizero
The little scratches on the upper of Odjida-Ofoe's blacked-out adizero boots give-away that they are a custom job. But we have to say they are one of the best efforts we've seen, as the tongue, laces and outsole are all blacked-out like a prototype boot.

Cheik Tiote (Newcastle United) Nike Tiempo Elite IV
So Odjida-Ofoe isn't the only player t feature in this edition of boot spotting, to have mixed up his footwear. Although for Tiote, it's a much more subtle look as he sported white Tiempo Elite football boots this weekend against Manchester City, but one with red and the other with a green Swoosh.

World Boot Spotting April 2012

Our last boot spotting of the domestic season includes some random spots from across the European leagues, with an array of blacked-out, custom and new football boots on show. Our boot spotting lens also turned it's attention to Euro 2012 and across to South America, so check out who caught our eye this week...

Sergio Aguero (Manchester City) Puma v1.11
When Puma signed Sergio Aguero, they knew he'd bag a good number of goals for Manchester City. But none will be more important than his 94th minute winner against QPR which secured his club the Premier League title in the most dramatic of circumstances. With Manchester City recently announcing a new partnership with Nike, the American brand will be kicking themselves for losing one of the worlds best strikers from their books.

Xabi Alonso (Real Madrid) adidas Predator Lethal Zones
Xabi Alonso finished the La Liga season wearing a blacked out pair of adidas Predator LZ football boots during Real Madrid's final home game against Mallorca. The Spanish international has made a handful of appearances wearing the new Predator since their launch, but presumably isn't a fan of the current colourways! Judging from his adiPure days, the midfielder is more in favour of traditional looking boots. It will be interesting to see what he wears for the European Championships.

Mathieu Valbuena (Marseille) Nike Vapor VII/Superfly III
Despite trying them out last week, Mathieu Valbuena is so far turning his back on the new Vapor VIII's and instead preferring to remain in the older versions. It will be interesting to see if this remains the case as we head into the Euro's, and with Nike planning on getting all their players in the 'Nike Clash Collection'.

Alessandro Del Piero (Juventus) adidas adiPure 11Pro
After an illustrious career with Juventus, Del Piero played and scored in his last game for the club. The title was already in the bag, but with victory Juventus completed a record season in which they were unbeaten. Del Piero wore adiPure 11Pro's, and we imagine they are a pair he will cherish and keep, after over 500 appearances for the Turin giants.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Saint-Etienne) Nike Mercurial Vapor VIII Custom
At first glance you might think Aubameyang is wearing the Sail/White Vapor 8's, currently being sported by Cristiano Ronaldo. But closer inspection confirms Pierre-Emerick has designed his own pair of Mercurial Vapors in White/Green, a classy match for the Saint-Etienne kit.

World Boot Spotting May 2012

The football world is getting ready for the 2012 European Championships. So that means some international friendlies to cast our bootspotting eyes over! The domestic season may be over, but there's never a shortage of football boots on show across the globe. Take a look at the latest spots to feature.

Steven Gerrard (England) adidas Predator LZ
England captain Steven Gerrard is one of the few modern day players who is associated with wearing only black boots. But now it looks as if the Liverpool veteran has succumbed to the brightly coloured world of modern football boots. Gerrard was spotted wearing the Blue/White/Red Predator LZ during England match against Norway.

Mario Goetze (Germany) Nike Mercurial Vapor VIII
Despite training in the Mercurial Vapor VIII Clash football boots, German youngster Mario Goetze looks to be saving his new footwear for the European Championships. The Borussia Dortmund midfielder stepped out in his familiar and unmissable Mango Vapor VIII boots as Germany took on Switzerland.

Lionel Messi (Barcelona) adidas f50 adizero mICoach
Lionel Messi gave Pep Guardiola the perfect send off at the weekend, scoring one goal in his new adidas f50 adizero miCoach football boots during Barcelona's 3-0 win over Athletic Bilbao. It seems an odd time for adidas to be giving their lead player a colour update, with a summer vacation now in store for Messi. We should see more of them in Barca's 12/13 pre-season.

Xabi Alonso (Spain) adidas Predator LZ
Xabi Alonso still hasn't played a match in the Predator LZ (a non-blacked out one anyway!) Now that he's finally gotten his hands on a pair of the more traditional Red/White/Black colourway, this could be about to change! After all, the Spanish midfielder and former adiPure wearer was never expected to wear Blue/White/Red colourway was he!

Frank Lampard (Chelsea) adidas adiPure 11Pro
Frank Lampard flew the adidas flag at the Allianz Arena, wearing the Blue/White/Infrared adiPure 11Pro boots. The veteran midfielder put in a good shift before coolly slotting home from the penalty spot in Chelsea's epic Champions League triumph. Frank's boots were a great match for Chelsea's home strip and will be the boots the English midfielder packs in his bag for Euro 2012!
